Building a Foundation in Project Management Certificate Curriculum

This Project Management Certificate Program is specifically designed for individuals who wish to build a solid foundation in applying the basics and industry best practices of the Project Management Institute’s (PMI®) Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® )3rd edition, 2004.  The curriculum leads the practitioner through a complete life-cycle approach to practical project management with an emphasis on being “deliverable focused” and “best practice oriented”.

The curriculum covers both the “Science and Art” aspects of project management to give the participant a real-world view of the challenges inherent in today’s quick-hit, complex, and constrained project efforts. Particular attention will be paid to practical and insightful lessons on the leadership and “intrapreneurial” skills required to consistently rally and motivate oneself and project team members in time constrained and resource over-allocated environments.

The curriculum was developed by Advanced Management Services, Inc. (AMS) senior project consultants. These proven industry experts bring a wealth of domestic and international project management and leadership experience from various industries and a wide range of challenging project types.

The curriculum progresses through the process of initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing a project.  At each point, participants are provided with best practices and tools via downloadable content.  The certificate curriculum culminates with an optional  Preparation for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) examination module.

Overall Features and Delivery of the Building a Foundation in Project Management

The curriculum of this certificate program has been specifically developed to assist the participant in developing a solid foundation of project management practice skills by utilizing a thorough life-cycle approach to the processes and practices espoused by the PMI’s - PMBOK® 3rd Edition, 2004.

In order to educate the participant in properly choosing and scaling project approaches, the curriculum will present management processes and best practices inherent to a wide range of project sizes and complexities by focusing on a deliverables-based approach.

Although the curriculum discusses and details project management characteristics from various industries, in its practical application, the Foundation Certificate program is an industry-neutral project management training platform. Specifically, students need not be concerned whether they are based in IT, Construction, Engineering or other fields. The program is based in, and quickly focuses the participant on the utilization of project management processes and best practices that can be easily shaped and scaled to any project type effort. Most importantly, the resulting outcome of the curriculum is to create a project manager who is apprised of the many project processes, tools and best practices, and possesses the necessary confidence and project-sense to apply those items which are of value.

All course tools, processes and best practices are illustrated by actual project examples (documentation) and are accompanied by a full suite of supportive forms that will allow the practitioner to develop a comprehensive and documented project approach to their own specific course project.

The above forms are part of the downloadable “full version” materials.
